Terms of Service

Welcome to PDFFlare (pdfflare.com). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website, tools, and services. By accessing or using PDFFlare, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using PDFFlare, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using PDFFlare on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Service Description

PDFFlare provides free and premium online tools for working with PDF files, images, documents, and other file types. Our services include but are not limited to:

  • Merging, splitting, and compressing PDF documents
  • Converting files between formats (PDF, Word, JPG, PNG, etc.)
  • Image editing and optimization tools
  • Text and developer utilities
  • OCR (Optical Character Recognition) processing

Many tools run entirely in your browser (client-side). Some advanced operations require server-side processing. We clearly indicate which mode each tool uses.

3. User Responsibilities

When using PDFFlare, you agree to:

  • Use the service only for lawful purposes and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure you have the right to process any files you upload or convert through our tools.
  • Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the service.
  • Not use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the service without our prior written consent.
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials if you have a Premium subscription.

4. Prohibited Use

You may not use PDFFlare to:

  • Process, store, or distribute any content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Infringe upon any third-party intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or any other malicious code through our platform.
  • Overload, disrupt, or interfere with the service or its infrastructure.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service, other users' accounts, or related systems.
  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the service without written permission from PDFFlare.

5. File Processing & Data Handling

We take your file privacy seriously:

  • Client-side tools process files entirely in your browser. No data is sent to our servers.
  • Server-side tools transfer files over encrypted connections (TLS 1.3). Files are processed in isolated containers and automatically deleted within 30 minutes.
  • We do not access, review, or analyze the content of your files for any purpose other than providing the requested service.
  • You retain all ownership and intellectual property rights to your files. We claim no rights over any content you process through PDFFlare.

6. Intellectual Property

The PDFFlare name, logo, website design, and all related content, including text, graphics, icons, and software, are the property of PDFFlare and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not use our branding, trademarks, or content without prior written permission. The tools and their underlying technology are provided for your personal or business use but may not be copied, replicated, or redistributed.

7. Premium Subscriptions

PDFFlare offers Premium subscription plans with additional features:

  • Billing: Premium subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Prices are displayed in USD and are subject to applicable taxes.
  • Free trial: If offered, free trial periods allow you to test Premium features before being charged. You may cancel during the trial period without charge.
  • Renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You will be charged the current subscription rate unless you cancel before the renewal date.
  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are provided for unused time within a billing cycle.
  • Refunds: We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis within 7 days of purchase for annual plans. Monthly plans are non-refundable. Contact us at support@pdfflare.com for refund requests.

8. Limitation of Liability

PDFFlare is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure at all times.
  • We are not responsible for any loss of data, corruption of files, or damages arising from the use of our tools.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to PDFFlare in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 USD, whichever is greater.
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

We strongly recommend keeping original copies of your files before processing them with any tool.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to PDFFlare at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in behavior that could harm the service or other users. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. If you have an active Premium subscription, we will provide a prorated refund for the remaining unused portion of your billing period, unless termination was due to a violation of these Terms.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify Premium subscribers by email. Your continued use of PDFFlare after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of PDFFlare will be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
